Ernie
Lafky, Stokley Towles and Sten Rudstrom met in graduate
school at CalArts in 1988.
They quickly began to influence each other. Through the process of writing
collaborations, editing and rigorous critiquing of each other's work,
Behind Every Great Man is a Thin Boy Struggling to Get Out
was born. This piece was funded and toured in the U.S. Lafky and Rudstrom
produced Radio Artaud, the first Artaud influenced piece
in Rudstrom's career, which was aired in 1989.
Towles directs his work more towards personal histories and installations.
Lafky and Rudstrom are currently rehearsing To Have Done with the
Judgment of God by Antonin Artaud, to premiere September
2006. Plans are in the works to produce
The Hamlet Machine by Heiner Mueller in Spring 2008.
Sabine von der Tann has been working with Rudstrom since 2001. Von der Tann and Rudstrom annually produce Uncontrolled Improvisations, a series of improvised duets on parkbenches in the city of Berlin. Both remain members of the ever-evolving Action Theater Ensemble, an improvisation group under the guidance of Ruth Zaporah.

Curtis first worked with Rudstrom in
the earlier Contraband dance training workshops. His expanding terrain
of movement research has remained connected to Rudstrom with various projects
throughout the years. Their most direct collaboration was Curtis as Assistant
Choreographer in Theater of Cruelty: the Life and Writings
of Antonin Artaud. 1996. Chris Shine has remained a consistent collaborator with Rudstrom, first shooting and editing a promotional tape of This is where it comes from in 1994. Then again for Theater for Cruelty: the Life and Writings of Antonin Artaud in 1996. Rudstrom has also played performance roles in Chris Shine's EcoGAP and various intermedia projects. Shinichi Momo Koga was introduced to Rudstrom via Action Theater training. Koga in turn introduced Rudstrom to inkBoat, Koga's butoh performance troupe and brought in Rudstrom as an Assistant Director for the remount of Cockroach in 2001. Rudstrom worked as Co-Director and performer for Koga's Onion, in 2002. Through Koga, Rudstrom became one of the founding members of adapt, a site-specific physical theater company, along with Yuko Kaseki, Minako Seki, Yael Karavan and Nils Willers.
