Theory and Practice Improvisation
Practice

One
of the great values of studying Action Theater
is gaining a director's eye. You learn the inner states of performing. You
can see and feel your own internal decision-maker. As a result, you are
able to better sense peformers while working with them. Their insecurities,
and habitual choices, become clearer to you. You can actually see how and
why they make their choices and help re-direct their decisions. You can
guide them better. Action Theater allows you to create dynamic material easier. With a group of performers or employees, or in solo, your choices expand tremendously. For a successful brainstorming session, the rational mind must be put aside and the creative allowed to flow. By reducing the constant control of the judging mind, you open to new venues. New options arise. As a company, the practice of improvisation brings members closer together and establishes greater trust. For directors of set material, Action Theater will expand your performers vocabulary. It will greatly improve their ability to discover, repeat and hold subtle feeling states that add color to their characters. Given a task, the performers will offer a wide variety of unforeseen choices. They will act more believably, find themselves much more in the present moment. Directors of personnel, management leaders, will find that Action Theater increases their work forces' camaraderie. The practice will open the staff to humor and lightness. Creativity will increase. Employess will offer fresh, creative solutions to old problems and be less likely to withhold their ideas. You will hear their opinions more and learn to support them. |
